Franklin County Based Projects Awarded Restore NY Grants Totaling $3.6 million

Franklin County, NY — The Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) welcomed Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement that two strategic projects in Franklin County have been awarded Restore NY grants totaling $3.6 million. The Restore New York Communities Initiative, administered by Empire State Development, aims to revitalize commercial and residential properties, eliminate blight, and promote community development and neighborhood growth.

The Village of Tupper Lake will receive $1.6 million for the Phase 1 Oval Wood Dish Factory Redevelopment project. This initiative focuses on the redevelopment of 126,000 square feet of former industrial space. The transformed space will be utilized for workforce housing, a co-working space, and new commercial facilities. The project aims to breathe new life into the area, creating vibrant community anchors and generating economic opportunities.

The Village of Saranac Lake will receive $2 million for the Pendragon Theatre. This project involves the rehabilitation of a vacant downtown building, which will be transformed into the new state of the art theater. The project aims to revitalize a Priority Redevelopment Area identified in the Village’s Downtown Strategic Investment Plan and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the community. The project builds upon long-term efforts to invest in community revitalization.

FCEDC Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Evans expressed enthusiasm for the projects and the Restore NY Program, “These two transformative projects have strong community backing and are well-deserving of state support and we congratulate the villages of Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake and the project sponsors for their dedication to downtown revitalization. We also express appreciation to the Governor and our state legislative representatives for including $50 million in the FY 2024 Budget for the Restore New York Communities Initiative so that more North Country projects can receive funding for worthy redevelopment projects.”

The Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) is fully committed to supporting the resurgence of main streets and downtowns within the county. Through technical assistance, funding, strategic planning support, and placemaking initiatives, the FCEDC strives to transform downtown neighborhoods into vibrant communities.
