Adirondack Frontier : August Recap

Text

The Franklin County Industrial Development Agency (part of FCEDC) owns and operates the Tupper Lake Business Park located on Pitchfork Pond Road in the Town of Tupper Lake.

Demand for space has risen dramatically in the last couple of years. Of the six original lots that were developed with infrastructure and utilities, only two remain available for purchase. Fortunately, we have additional acreage available for development.

The park was originally dedicated to wood products businesses but as the pace of revitalization has quickened in Tupper Lake, the park  has evolved into a great location for businesses that need a space to expand but which may be incompatible with residential and main street neighborhoods.

FCEDC is thrilled to be able to leverage the business park to help local businesses grow AND help make the neighborhoods in Tupper Lake more livable.

FCEDC recently approved a $50,000 loan to Excelsior Railbikes, LLC. The funding will be used to operate 2 and 4 person railbikes along the newly refurbished rail line from the Tupper Lake Depot. Tourism is one of our resilient industries and FCEDC is pleased to support this new tourism-related business in the heart of the Junction in Tupper Lake.

Congratulations are in order for two of the Adirondack Frontier’s biotech companies, Trudeau Institute and Ampersand Biosciences!

The two companies received a nearly $600,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to help researchers assess the effectiveness of new COVID-19 vaccines under development.

As Dr. Laurie Stephen, president of the Lake Clear-based Ampersand Biosciences told the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, “These grants don’t just benefit us and Trudeau, but the entire region,” said. “This funding helps us build our business. And it tells others that you can build a successful STEM career in the Adirondacks.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

Two Adirondack Frontier villages, Malone and Tupper Lake, are working hard to prepare funding applications for the State’s NY Forward and Downtown Revitalization Initiative Programs. FCEDC is providing technical assistance to support both efforts. Good luck to both communities!

Tupper Lake Junction

The Village of Tupper Lake is seeking NY Forward funding for the Junction area of Tupper Lake. The Village is compiling information about potential projects and finalizing the application which must be submitted by September 23rd. To support the Village’s efforts FCEDC created a website www.tupperlakejunction.com where residents can learn about the project, provide input on the draft vision and goals, and submit project ideas.

Main Street Malone

The Village of Malone is applying for Round 6 of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. With a growing list of revitalization successes, the Village is in a great position to leverage the $10 million award. The application deadline is September 23rd and FCEDC is assisting the Village with mapping and technical assistance. FCEDC also created a website, www.downtownmalone.com to help residents learn about the Village’s downtown revitalization efforts. The site has an online form where users can submit project ideas.
