Adirondack Frontier Biotech Gathering 2024
Adirondack Frontier Biotech Gathering
The Adirondack Frontier’s biotechnology sector brings an educated workforce, high-paying jobs, and a global presence to our region — but too often, their contributions fly beneath the radar.
Recently we hosted a meeting of corporate leaders, elected officials, and Empire State Development leaders at Trudeau Institute, where they discussed ways to spark growth and visibility.
Visitors heard remarks from Assemblyman Billy Jones and State Senator Dan Stec, as well as a roundtable presentation from Trudeau President and Director William Reiley, Bionique Testing Laboratories CEO Gladis Zamparo, and Ampersand Biosciences President and CSO Laurie Stephen; in addition, Dylan Williams, VP of Life Sciences at Empire State Development, spoke. Jeremy Evans, CEO of Franklin County Economic Development Corporation, moderated the panel.
We identified common challenges organizations face in moving here, such as finding skilled workers — and then ensuring those workers, in turn, can find affordable housing and childcare. And while that’s a challenge, the industry isn’t starting from scratch: The cluster of biotech companies already here, some of which attended the conference, are a beacon to other companies who may be drawn by the prospect of relocating to the beautiful Adirondacks.
