Franklin County Economic Development Corporation and Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Collaborate to Launch Start A Start-Up Guide

Saranac Lake, NY – The Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) is excited to announce the release of the Start A Start-Up Guide, a comprehensive resource developed in collaboration with the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. This guide is designed to assist aspiring entrepreneurs in the Saranac Lake area in navigating the intricate journey of building and sustaining a successful business.

The Start A Start-Up Guide: A Pathway to Entrepreneurial Success

Starting a business is a significant endeavor that requires passion, dedication, and a strategic approach. The Start A Start-Up Guide begins with a self-assessment, encouraging entrepreneurs to evaluate their leadership qualities, industry experience, financial readiness, and commitment to success. It emphasizes the importance of mentorship and highlights the key steps critical to launching and managing a thriving business.

The guide provides a 10-step checklist format, covering essential aspects such as market research, business planning, funding, business location, legal structure, business naming, registration, tax IDs, licenses, permits, and opening a business bank account.

Connecting Entrepreneurs with Local Resources

Recognizing that no one starts and runs a successful business without help, the guide includes a resource list featuring key organizations in the North Country that provide various forms of support. The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Development Center, Adirondack North Country Association Center for Businesses in Transition, and others are highlighted for their services ranging from mentoring to business training and financing.

Local Financing Opportunities

The Start A Start-Up Guide also provides information on local financing opportunities, including loan funds and financial resources offered by organizations such as Franklin County Economic Development Corporation, North Country Alliance, and Point Positive. These organizations aim to support start-ups and existing businesses with loans tailored to fit their needs.

Utilizing Additional Online Resources

Entrepreneurs are encouraged to utilize online resources such as the Small Business Administration (SBA) and New York Business Express websites. The SBA website offers an interactive tool for a customized checklist of requirements and additional resources, while the New York Business Express website provides templates, video tutorials, and detailed descriptions for each business step.
