What is Technical Assistance?
Technical assistance involves providing specialized knowledge, expertise, and support to organizations, communities, or individuals to enhance their capabilities, implement projects, or solve specific problems. This assistance can take various forms, including:
- Consulting Services: Offering expert advice and solutions in specialized areas such as engineering, information technology, management, or environmental science.
- Training and Capacity Building: Conducting workshops, seminars, or on-the-job training to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Project Implementation Support: Assisting with the planning, execution, and monitoring of specific projects or programs.
- Technical Advice and Guidance: Providing ongoing support and recommendations to address particular challenges or improve operational efficiency.
Facilitating Technical Assistance in Our Downtowns
Our commitment to helping Main Streets and downtowns thrive is rooted in our belief that they are the heart of our communities. Downtown revitalization requires patience, skill, and sound decision-making by community leaders and stakeholders. The FCEDC team brings the experience and expertise needed to support communities in making informed decisions based on the latest best practices.
Spotlight on Success: Downtown Revitalization Initiative
A prime example of our technical assistance in action is the success of Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, both recipients of the $10 million NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) award. The journey to achieving these awards began months before the submission deadlines, involving extensive collaboration with partners.
Throughout the process, FCEDC played a pivotal role. We worked closely with village staff to draft and review application questions, prepare presentations, provide demographic and economic data, create maps, and help stakeholders ready their projects for inclusion in the submission.
